Meoto Iwa, Japan 2017
These rocks are known locally as the Lover’s Rocks or the Wedded Rocks. The red torii sitting on the rocks indciates a shrine is close by. The golden rope is called a Shimenawa and is made from rice straw and weighs over a tonne in weight. It symbolises the unity between man and woman and is changed 4 times a year in a ceremony. It takes over 20 monks to carry out the changing of the Shimenawa. A stunning location with lots of history and character
A different composition of the Lover’s Rocks, here I wanted to suggest the idea of a family.
